Regarding Federal jobs what does "Referred for Excepted Service" mean?
I have been referred for excepted service for a couple of jobs. What exactly does this mean in the GS world? I need an answer ASAP please! Thanks

- If I'm not mistaken, this means that you have special preference in certain applications, because you have previous experince working for the state in some capacity. My girlfriend was in the Peace Corps, and I think she beat out other candidates for a later job because she had that "preferential" status that the other applicants did not --hope that helps!
- I'm not quite sure, To me it would probably mean that you qualified for a certain job in your field.. are returning from the Military service if you are that would mean that for instance, if you were a bomb disposal technician ..In the GS services their would be a similar job in that field .. just not sure... need more info.. good luck..
- GS-General Schedule A common payment system used in federal employment used primarily for civilian professional jobs WG a common payment system used for labor jobs There are quite a few additional pay systems that may or may not coinicide with the GS systems and are used less frequently. "Excepted Service" jobs are not administered by the Office of Personnel Managment (and are often not listed on usajobs.opm.gov). Typically federal court, and intelligence workers are Excepted Service (District Courts, FBI, CIA, etc).
