How are Federal Jobs paid on a GS scale?
When starting a federal job at say a GS-9 level. Does the federal government always start people at step 1 or can someone be hired as a GS-9 step 6 for example? Backup source would be helpful too. Thanks.

- GS 9 base pay is 38824 to 50470. with 1294 increases per step. I believe most jobs start at step 1 Adjustments based on location listed on the opm.gov site. http://federalgovernmentjobs.us
