What does "your case is in the security office" mean? Is it sitting somewhere gathering dust or what?

I have an application pending with a federal law enforcement agency. This is my status. Category Status Remarks Pre-Employment Forms completed:All pre-employment forms have been received. Qualificationscompleted:A review of your work experience and/or education has been completed and you have been found to be qualified at Grade 7 Medical Examcompleted:Medical requirements have been successfully completed. Background Investigation pending:Your case is in the security office. Fitnesscompleted:Fitness test has been successfully completed It has been 12 months since date of application.

Public Comments

  1. they're doing a background check and it takes awhile,sometimes up to 24 months
  2. Translation; We Dumb Asses have lost your application packet or We gave it to the other dumb asses that have lost it. Please re-submit you packet in triplicate next time so if we are stupid and lose it again we still will have others to fall back on. Thank You!
  3. They are waiting for the results of your background investigation to come back. Generally, this is the longest part of the process.
  4. Did they submit their email address? Perhaps you could contact them or give them a call. Could it be that it was supposed to be sent out but got lost within a mountain of other applications?
