Employment length Question?
I've heard two different things on disclosing employment. I've heard that if you're at a job for 3 months or less, that its a matter of choice as to if you disclose it or not. I've also heard that there's a federal law that says that if your at a job for 3 months or less than you're under no obligation to disclose it. Is there a law? Yeah I know. My last job I was only at for 3 months and quit. It was in terrible financial shape and I just wasn't comfartable working there. Sure enough, a week after I quit 10% of the company was laid off. Plus, I'm 35 and have been working since I was 15. If I listed all jobs I've had my resume would be 8 pages long at least.

- I don't think there is any such law, but I do know this: employers do not like finding out that employment candidates have made lies of commission or omission on their applications, and virtually every employer that I know of makes it grounds for dismissal if you are found to have lied on your employment application. I would say that you need to give really solid thought about omitting a job you had if the employment application specifies something like "Please list ALL jobs you have had." If you have some reason for wanting to omit the job you had for 3 months or less-- like you were terminated for cause or something like that-- you might want to think hard about your strategy in filling out the job application. Just bear in mind that very few employers are happy about finding that a prospective employee has lied to them on a job application, and that lying on a job application is almost always a legal grounds for dismissal.
- I cannot tell you if there is a law, but somewhere near the end of applications you agree that you are telling the truth. The employer can check on anything that you do tell them, but for me personally, I would not list jobs that have been of very short duration. When an employer looks at a resume and notices that you have changed jobs frequently, they are going to assume that you will continue to do the same. One of the main goals that a young person should do is obtain a job and stay with it for a year or more. This looks much better than several jobs in a year.
