Fema Employment

I want to use an employment agency to get a part-time job. How can they help me?

I need a little income for a small church I am helping to start. I have found the federal agency to not be of use, and want to go to a private agency. I was wondering how I should approach this. I desperately wish to get a foot in the door, so I am not concerned with paying them, but just want employment. I am in an unusual situation, in which I believe I have some strong assets, but also have liabilities. These liabilties involve not having much work experience, and I am 50. My main job experience was as a college history adjunct, but this pays really less than minimum wage and requires unpaid commuting. I am therefore not looking to teach, but feel I have good writing, communication skills, and could be marketable. I am looking at the best way to approach the agency. Is it likely they can help me? I expect menial work, and thought an agency could get me started with some job. So far I have been unable to find one myself. Any comments, suggestions appreciated.

  1. Whenever you register, just talk to the person who you are interviewing with and what type of position you are looking for which is part time. I am sure whenever the employment agency has that position, they will give you a call.
  2. Some agencies will not do anything if they dont think they can place you. They do not want to waste their time. I registered with 2 agencies, and not one single call. I have no qualifications other than my HS diploma. I have many years of experience, but they didnt look at that. They are hired by their clients (employers) to find people with the exact requirements and if you dont fit exactly, you do not get any interview. Agencies are too narrow-minded in looking for what the clients want. Agencies LOVE people with qualifications, because thats what the clients (employers) want.
  3. Do not underestimate what it is that you have to give. You do not know what any future employer is looking for until they tell you. Some businesses are looking to hire 50 yr. olds. They are downsizing and would rather pay you than pay the employee that has been there for 30 yrs.( Sad... but true) Jobs that really want you to work will train you. No problem... Some want people with less experience so you can learn their way as opposed to another employees'. Also go to the unemployment office. The counselors there will help you establish a resume that works to your advantage. What you see as a liability... someone will see as an opportunity for growth.Don't sell yourself short. You are the head and not the tail! You do not have to complain, compare and compromise and sell yourself short. Walk in authority and believe you have gifts to give. After all.. the job is about service to God... not man Honeychild!
