Those of you with federal government jobs: How long did the hiring process take?

The federal government is notorious for having a very long and drawn out hiring process. It isn't uncommon for a person to apply for a job in January and not hear anything until May or June. After submitting a resume through USAjobs, filling out the occupational questionnaire, making the selection list and participating in a second interview how long does it usually take after this interview for the government to reach a hiring decision? Would you share some of the experiences you have had with federal government employment? I'm specifically concerned about FCIP (federal career intern position) programs

  1. Well, it took them about 3 months to get back me. it all varies upon the amount of people who are applying for the position. Usually they will call you in for a interview. Then its another long process after that. I say a good 1 1/2 to 2 months after the initial interview.
  2. well i don't have a federal job but i do have a State job i work for the State of Arkansas as a Correctional Officer at the State prison in Arkansas. well the hiring part isn't long but you have a 7 week training program to go to everyday except saturdays and sundays. but the good thing is you get paid every 2 weeks while getting trained at their training academy.
