Federal Equal Employment Opportunity lawsuits.?

Have you ever filed one? If so, what amount did you receive for damages and how long did it take to go through the court system? Did the EEOC decide your case or a judge?

  1. I am considering filing one - actually it isnt a lawsuit, it is an investigation. The EEOC doesn't bring lawsuits, but it doesn't take much to get one started, unlike a lawsuit. Call the EEOC, check online to see who is nearest you. They will talk to you for free, and tell you if you have a case. If you do, they will handle almost all of it completely, you don't need to be involved. It is worth asking, because it is so easy to get information about it.
  2. I was being harassed by my boss because I'm much younger than her and white (most of my office was older black women). The whole thing was horrible. They picked on me, lied about me, threatened me... Anyway, I went and filed a claim with EEOC and they threw it out in 5 days! Didn't even investigate it. Then when she found out that I had gone to EEOC it got worse, so I went back and filed a retailiation claim. They dismissed that one as well, in 11 days. I went to court with my attorney and the whole case was finally dropped by me. My attorney said that we probably wouldn't win anyway because reverse descrimination laws aren't that strong yet, and I got tired of living through it. I was ready to move on with my life and forget about the whole crappy situation. I hope you have better luck than I did!
