A question about Government Assistance in Canada?

I met my fiance when I was on Assistance. We lived together for a few months to save money to have a down-payment on a house, pay for some schooling for me to get a decent job and get off 'welfare'. We did just that even though we wished we could have done it without the 'assistance'. (yes, we know it was wrong but there are people out there that do mush worst) If the government found out I received Assistance while I had a man living with me, albeit 3 years after the fact, would I be fined, have to pay it all back or charged? I'm not proud of what we did but I knew it was for the greater good for me and my kids. Thanks in advance. To weemaranne.again . . . um, I'm glad you've never done anything you're not proud of in your life. Congrats to you. I, on the other hand, am human and I made a choice to improve myself and my family's life with a little help from the government. In this country, assistance does not include any kind of training or upgrading, just enough money to get by from month to month. I'm not going to apologize for getting off Assistance and I used the only way I could at the time.

  1. Let me get this straight: You know it was wrong. You knew that at the time. Now you're wondering whether you can/will be punished for doing wrong. I don't need to answer this. You do.
