- It is possible but would depend highly on your experience and any additional training or education you have in IT or soft. engineering. You'd need to be familiar with a lot of different technologies for starters. It's tough for new grads without any experience to land jobs because most employers want people who know stuff. Your work experience is in a completely different field, so you'll be in the same boat as a new grad, but without their education. If you've taught classes in comp. sci, or have any experience in the field, then that would help. Otherwise, try to get a position part-time. Any computer designations will show that you're serious about the field and know a thing or two. If it's possible, just take some classes at your local univ. so you can show that you're also a bit educated. If there are part-time certificates in programming, then take those. Network, network, network with anyone in the field, and keep educating yourself.
