Security Clearance Check at BC and SC Level with a criminal record?

If I have spent conviction for an offence which is also my only offence (driving over the alcohol limit) and i apply for security clearence for a Government job, will the clearence be turned down, will the conviction show up (it is spent) and do i still have to declare it even if it has been spent?

  1. yes declare it and yes it will still show up even if it is spent and no it shouldnt bar you from taking the job
  2. If you lied about it or omitted it, then you will get turned down. Just it's existence shouldn't prohibit a clearance if you were honest and open about it.
  3. You should be o.k, it's only there to protect the interest of the goverment. if you had beaten some one up when drunk you might not get the job
  4. I'm a government employee with an active security clearance. I was always told that you disclose everything. A clearance is whether you are trustworthy now and in the future. If you leave something like that out of your report and they find it (trust me, they will find it), then your credibility is suspect because you tried to hide something. Tell them what you did, that you paid for your mistake and then show evidence of how you have changed. It's going to be a stretch, but with security investigators, the absolute worst thing you can do is lie and hide the truth.
