Are Democrats the reason their voters are poor with no ambition to get themselves out of poverty?
Would they rather see the poor dependent on them because they know if these people got jobs they would vote Republican in a New York minute? Democrats always talk about how the Republicans don't care about the less fortunate, but I have noticed that Democrats have run large cities like Newark, NJ, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Saint Louis and their people are still impoverished and the crime in those cities is rampant. Because of this, it seems to me Dems don't care about the people who vote for them either. Constant government assistance does not help things out. Just visit your local inner city neighborhood.

- Cheers! I am a Republican and proud of it. Also, I do agree with many of the problems exacerbated by the Dems...one for example is the hurricane response. FEMA screwed up, ok fine, but no one really heard anything about how the entire democratic (mayor, police chief, city leadership in general) failed to do the jobs they are there for. Everyone else had to help the people there, when, if they had done their jobs properly, it would have been less loss of life...they really did a bad thing to the people there. Hmmmmm.
- Yes.
- Not at all. Ah, ye gullible folks.
- Republicans believe that if an American has the opportunity, he can overcome any adverse situation and succeed. Democrats believe that the government should make sure there are no adverse situations.
- Just heard on the radio that the poverty rate just went way down for the first time since Bush took office. It's about time the realty deals Hillary did finally caught back up.
- Republicans focus on giving tax cuts to the uber rich and trying to take away civil liberties. So what is your point?
- You need to start providing some sources. Hey, I'm a dem, and I didn't call you a name. Is your world falling apart?
- sour the milk
- I have a career, and I own a home. I used to vote Republican. I won't anymore. I didn't leave the GOP; they left me. But the Dems aren't much better. A viable Independent Party might be the answer, but the pols on both sides of the aisle will do their level best to stop that from happening, because it threatens their grip on power. Yeah, I'd call that a crisis.
- This isn't a question. This is a mindless, conservative diatribe. Your argument would only hold up, if there weren't poor people in Republican-run cities. We all know that this isn't true. Obviously, poverty is influence by more factors than just political parties. Also, the poverty rate didn't go "way down". It went down by less than one pecent. Are people incapable of accurately interpreting statistics?
- Studies have shown that conservatives give more of their own money and time to the poor than liberals.
- No that's the republicans that are forcing more people into poverty by shifting the tax burden away from the rich and onto the poor, along with stealing their tax dollars by awarding government contracts to companies like haliburton. And other things.
- Wow...nice question/observation. Personally, when the dems promise to tax everyone above my income and give their money to me...so I can begin a life of leisure, I'm ready to make the switch too. At the moment, it's still worth it to work.
- Best post I've seen in a while. Democrats feed off of the problems they inspire and encourage in their voting base.
- I agree. At some point, those poor Americans need to ask themselves what exactly has the Democratic party done for them? Why are they no better off than they were forty years ago?
- I'm poor and I cant understand how any poor person could vote Democrat. Nobody wants to be dependent on the government. The only thing I can think of are the people who work off the books and get welfare illegally. There are stupid people in every class. Democrat propaganda just works better than the truth.
- If people with jobs vote Republican, and the unemployed all vote Democratic, why do the Republicans pursue policies that send more and more jobs to India, Mexico and China? I'd be an idiot to vote for such suicidal idiots. SPARTACUS, YOU NUTCASE! LEGISLATING A FAIR MINIMUM WAGE IS NOT A "HANDOUT" IT'S BASED ON THE SAME PRINCIPALS AS LAWS THAT FORBID SLAVERY!!!
- I agree with the point, Democrats at the Federal Level have fought for increases in minimum wage. Its a double edged sword but we can't as a society permit the government handout society to keep going.
- Republicans do take care of people... the rich...major corporations...upper class...the ones who are rich by exploiting the poor....you think if this country was fair they'll be a huge gap between rich and poor people?? I like when they cut back on spending and get rid of the programs that help the needy...yet they give themselves a raise, like they really need it...yeah I see your point!
- There are caring people on both sides of the argument... unfortunately.. The Democrats have convinced many, that their failed policies can help the poor... Sadly... as evidenced by the great society results... too many less fortunate people remain economically enslaved to entitlement programs... Give a man a fish..he eats one day.. Teach a man to fish..he eats for the rest of his life... The democrats want to give OTHER people's fish away...
- ignorance, poor education, poor values, and lack of percieved opportunites given an overblown sense of entitlement is was causes poverty together with a failure to invest blood sweat and tears into hard labor as it is available.
