What should our "government" do about illegal immigration?

It is most definately time to do something, and fast. I live in a small agricultural town in Georgia and 15% of our population is non-english speaking hispanics. Working my job as an EMT-CT gets more difficult every day with the ever present language barrier. These illiegals refuse to learn the language of our land. They are provided indegent medical care while I have to fight tooth and nail to pay my insurance premiums. They are given "food stamps" and eat "high on the hog" while my family eats generic. They are provided free legal assistance. When the local law enforcement calls INS, they are given the run around. The majority of the illiegals in my area are drug or alchol dependant, In the past year I have been assaulted on the job 3 times by illegal hispanics Not only that I had to continue treating them after having to fight them.. I know they are trying to better themselves by coming to the U.S., but do you need any more kids to support? I know I don't!! In response to Peetah's "this question is getting old." You're damn right it is. The American people shouldn't have to keep trying to come up with ideas for our lawmakers on this matter. This is a cut and dry topic: close the borders and don't let them in!! And when they do get in and are found deport them that same day.This goes for any nationality; Mexican, french, Canadian. It doesn't matter. It's time we get some balls about us and stop worrying about hurting everyones feelings, or how these immigrants can pad my pocket.

The government should NOT give them any services, including health care, education, etc. The government should also levy HUGE fines on people who employ them.

Our countries known as the melting pot. But I think its time we did make the illegal immigrants get legal green cards and visas. Times are hard enough for the ones born here to get a job.

They need to be rounded up and tossed. We really should close our borders entirely while we get this problem under control. I know our country was founded on this foundation and I know these people are trying to "better" themselves but they are harming our system. We should not be responsible for them. i for one am tired of supporting illegals. I have two of my own kids, I don't need nor do I want to support someone elses, especially illegals. Further, these people are able to obtain all sorts of benefits which I do not want to have to pay for. Lastly, they need to stay in their own countries and work on improving the situation there rather than tax ours. This goes for all illegals not just Hispanics. One last thought, I'm sick of people in this country not speaking English, at the very least, if they are gong to be here they need to learn English!!!

Throw the people that hire them in jail. That is the only way to stop them. As long as somebody is willing to hire them, they will come. I will pay a little more for my lawn care, my new roof, hotel..etc if I know the workers are legal workers.
I agree with the answers that were given before, if the government think they should let the immigrants come into the US they should really think about the jobs given, the attitude the illegal immigrant would bring here, and how it would effect the economy. Their right illegal immigrants are making a "drag" on the country its self. How are the "real" US people going to get good job to support the families they already have here if an illegal immigrants are taking over. There is no way their going to settle this problem by letting a little in at US. I say this not to be mean they should fight for what they believe is right, but the truth of the matter is if the protesters really want to be heard they should go "inside" their country and speak against the way their being treated there, not run away putting a burden on someone else so they can fight their battles, they can at least try. And it's not that I'm a raciest or anything I agree with some of what their saying also but they should really think about what their doing. How can the US continue to move forward if others keep pulling on it making it turn around....?
Limit immigration have a lottery for who is too stay or go and checkout thoroughly those coming in to our country that they will be good citizens and go buy our laws. It is not fair to the American worker they lower the quality of the workplace when they work too cheap and that helps the rich not the average worker.We now have one of the longest work weeks in the world we don't need any more be ratting

Yeah, these people come into our country and expect to be treated as if they were kings of the world!! If anybody wants to come into our country, they should get a visa. You don't see Latin American countries helping the Americans get in illegally do you? Countries like Mexico have issues in their constitution saying that preferences for jobs would be for the Mexicans and not the foreigners. Boy, I'm not racist but they've gotta learn!!
