How are the civil service jobs in the State of New York?
I currently work for the state of California and looking into possible opportunities with the state of New York. Is there currently a hiring feeze going on there? Is there a demand for technical positions within the government? I'm looking for an entry-level tech support position.

- We just installed a new governor (Elliot Spitzer), who will no doubt be changing the budget around a bit. Your best bet is to keep an eye on the state's web site, and track agencies that are hiring. There are also civil service jobs with the counties (we have 57 outside New York City), as well as the towns and cities. NYC has an enormous civil service roll, and a check on its websites is a good idea also. The Dept of Education alone is enormous.
