Can i claim tools on my Tax Return?

I am an electrical apprentice and i have been buying a lot of tools to be able to do my job. Is there any way i can get money back for these seeing as the government is pushing people to go into the trades? I live in Ontario Canada so it might be different for you than me.

  1. You need to speak with an tax accountant
  2. Yes. There is a tradesperson deduction, and you are eligible for other amounts as well. http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/individuals/topics/income-tax/return/completing/deductions/lines206-236/229/mechanic/menu-e.html
  3. Yes, there is a deduction that you can make in your federal tax calculation, but be advised that there is a minimum amount that you must spend before the deduction kicks in. I believe that the minimum amount is $1,000. See paragraph 8(1)(s) of the Income Tax Act. http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/showdoc/cs/I-3.3/bo-ga:l_I-gb:l_A//en#anchorbo-ga:l_I-gb:l_A
