Will a police report show in background checks for a US government job?

I would like to apply for a government job, but I've had a police report filed on me a few months ago because of a misunderstanding I've made, mistaking a laptop that was mine but ended up it was not and I tried to take it. I cleared it up with the guy but the scene was big that the police came and took down my name and information for a police report. I was not convicted or pressed charges since it was a misunderstanding. Please refer to an older question I asked before for more information about the case if you like. My main question is, Will the US government be able to see this police report from a background check? Thanks.

I highly doubt it. if no charges were pressed then they wouldnt fill out a police report for something that was never a problem. Most likely that name on the paper went into the garbage since there was no reason to make a police report over a misunderstanding. they wouldnt want to go through all that paper work for nothing

If you were neither charged nor convicted, there will be nothing on the police report that is presented during the background checks. In a future interview, you may be asked if there is anything further on your record. At that time, you might want to tell them about the 'misunderstanding' simply to show that you are being completely open about your background, and also in case they ask other people about you and someone brings it up. In addition to police checks, they often do ask neighbors, co-workers etc. about you and if you have already mentioned the incident, they won't freak out if a neighbor erroneously reports that you were accused of stealing something.
Most likely yes. Did they take your fingerprints then? If so, they will be able to pull out all reports pertaining to the person. But i dont think it will affect your security clearance if you are innocent, the most important thing is to be honest about everything, so if you are hesitant about putting that incident in the application form, you should not be,,just put down everything and be honest about everything. The government is very thourough now with security background check especially since 9/11, so dont lie!

If a police report was filed, they will see it. They will send letters to the police departments in all cities you live(d) in and ask for any police reports which name you. Sometimes they will give you the letter and make you take it to all police departments.
It depends on what type of job you are applying for and what type of background is being conducted. Sometimes the request for your records will stated that they are only looking for reports that a person was convicted or listed as a subject despite the disposition. Sometimes the requesting agency ask for any paperwork from any police contact. Your best bet is to expect the report to show up during your background. List it on your questionaire with the explanation. If you are on the up and up, then don't worry about it.
No it will not show up. Charges were not filed. Do you people really think we have the man power to put every bit of information on file on a computer for everyone to check? Really, just no! Don't worry about it and don't mention it.

If you were not arrested, it will not show up But the report is always there, so things like that show up for people like presidents and the such in some future time. If you were arrested, fingerprinted but charges were droped, it will show up. jBut arrested and case dismissed should not hurt, since many innocent people are charged with crimes and later dismissed or found not guilty
