Fema Employment

Has anyone ever applied for a federal government (USA) job on-line?

It seems so complicated.

  1. I have applied for numerous jobs on their website and to this day I have not even recieved a call back. I am well qualified for each position that i have applied for but apparently I believe it is more of a "Who do you know" type deal. It may be better to do the traditional, go meet the hiring department in person.
  2. Applied for the Postal Service and within three months, took my test, was sworn in and worked there for three years. Unfortunately, my site was closed and I am not a career employee, so I was laid off. I have been applying like crazy for federal jobs but I never hear a thing. Did get put on the hiring registed for the Defense Dept but they were closing so that fizzled. Just keep plugging away....something has to give somewhere.
  3. This site may offer some information.
  4. I not only applied for a federal job on-line; but the first job I ever applied for I got!!!! EVERY federal job opening can be found on www.usajobs.opm.gov There are several forms to fill out including KSA's (knowledge, skills, and abilities). Sometimes you will find an opening with different grade levels of pay depending on experience and education. Hint, you will get further if you are willing to start at the lower grade and automatically move up, rather than trying to start right at the top. DO NOT TRY TO GO IN PERSON TO AN AGENCY!!!! You must submit the application materials to wherever indicated. Also, when you are on the web site you may see that some openings are for people already employed by the advertising agency. Make sure you still read the announcement as sometimes non-employees can apply for lower grades. IT IS NOT A QUICK PROCESS!!!!! Once the announcement date closes, the applications have to be rated and scored for a group of best qualified applicants. Those applicants are then called in for more paperwork and an interview. Depending on the agency there can be other factors which delay hiring. For example, I work for the Bureau of Prisons, and after my application was scored I had to come in for an interview and a MASSIVE amount of additional paperwork. After that I had to come in for a physical/drug test, and then I had to wait for my background / security clearance. So, be patient and GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!!!! A federal job is worth it. Lots of agencies to move around in, security, great retirement, and PAY!
