Four men believed to be connected to a Mexican cartel were arrested in Georgia earlier this month and drugs valued at almost $6 million were seized as as a part of a multi state sweep, according to a North Carolina newspaper. The Stokes (NC) News reported the details of the sweeps that culminated an undercover investigation of an operation suspected of shipping methamphetamine from Atlanta and North Carolina to the District of Columbia, according to news accounts. Efforts to reach the federal Drug Enforcement Administration in Atlanta were not successful. On Dec. 7, undercover agents delivered approximately five pounds of crystal methamphetamine they claimed came from one of the targets of the federal investigation’s targets. Three days later, in coordinated raids, agents raided stash house on Dec. 10 on Ash Rill Drive in Alpharetta and on Briarlake in northeast Atlanta. They seized about 25 pounds of finished methamphetamine, two handguns, approximately $15,000 in U.S. currency, numerous cell phones, and a 2000 Honda Accord with a hidden compartment in the dashboard, according to the Stokes News. Authorities in Atlanta arrested Sergio Garcia-Virelas, 24; Felipe Alvarado-Ponce, 36; Jesus Bustos-Penaloza, 52; and Alfonso Martinez-Cruz, 39. Authorities in North Carolina arrested four more men in the Winston-Salem and Forsyth and Stokes County region.
