Would you resign from a federal government job you just started ??
I did an accounting internship over the summer, but the pay and hours were to low for me to live off of. After trying to find an accounting entry-level job for several months without any luck, I applied for a GS-5 government job and accepted the offer. After just one week in, I'm starting to feel like this was a bad move. I really miss the accounting work like I did on my internship. This job has nothing to do with my major and there is no accounting department that I can possibly move to. I'm basically moving heavy boxes and files all day. Everyone around me seems to think I've hit the jackpot by getting into the government. Is landing a gov. job the only way to a secure future? Benefits, security, and retirement....but what about my happiness? This week has been rough. My mother says put my happiness to the side, and just do the (*$*! job.. "nobody likes their job" according to her. I'm not planning on leaving until I find a job in accounting. What do you think?

- Give it three months to decide it's a good fit or not. One week isn't enough time.
- you are now an agent of the government you have joined the rank and file of the societal deadbeat gravy train govt worker you are now part of the problem, not the cure they are all a bunch of fat lazy teet-sucking socialists and you have joined the party
- You haven't given your new job enough of a chance. Wait a month, and make the call.
- Your mother is wrong. There is nothing more miserable than getting up and going to a job you hate every day. Lots of folks find the right niche. I love my job and if I won the lottery I would keep doing it. My father loved his job. I have known people that hate their jobs and in my opinion, no wage or benefit is worth living like that. while the feds have good benefits, they are not the only such outfit. Most major employers offer reasonable benefits, including medical and vacation.
