What do the scores mean when applying for federal jobs?

I recently applied for a federal job at the GS-05 level and recieved the following email regarding my score: You are eligible for employment at: Grade Total Score / Vet Pref GS-05: 96 / (NV) What does the information mean? Is the 96 out of 100? Do they contact you for an interview? What is the hiring process like?

  1. Your score is 96 out of 100 but some people can get a higher score than 100. For example ex-military people get a bonus score. I think it is 5 points. That would be the Vet Pref on email. If you scored high enough then you should be called for an interview, it will depend on the scores of others applying for the position and if there is someone who has an insider pulling for them to get the job.
