Need a grant for Nursing. How do I get it?
I have a bachelor's degree in telecommunications. My job cut my hours drastically and I hate the work. I am going back to school to get an associates degree as a registered nurse. Now I am not eligible for any state (PA) or federal grants. What can I do? I relied on these very much when getting my bachelor's degree. I cannot find anything to help as far as grants. It really doesn't seem fair that I am not eligible. Having a bachelor's degree doesn't mean I can afford school on my own. And my job was going ok until the economy bottomed out. Now I can barely afford to go back to school. What do I do? Also I need to work to support myself during this time. So I don't know if I would be able to work, volunteer and also go to school, clinical and study. I am just confused.

- Go to work in a health care related job that has a tuition program. (Hospital, Plasma Center)
- As somebody who has done this job for many years, good luck. Student nurse placements are tough and with no pay. You will encounter bullying, harassment and if you are sick, you will have to go to work. When you are a student, you have a sickness ratio allowance of 30 days for the whole 3 year course. This is not much when you think of what can happen in 3 years and if you do have more than 10 days off per year, you are finished. Does your country have a bursary system? I rec commend seeing a career counselor and benefit advisor and looking into these aspects. Good luck to you if you decide on nursing...
