How much does it cost to get help from a employment lawyer?
I got fired last week and my ex-employer owes me money. He is just unwilling to give me that money so I think i have to get a lawyer to solve this. I heard from my friend that it doesn't cost any which is I highly doubt. Does it really not cost anything? and if it does, is there any way I can get my money from my ex-employer? I am gonna leave this country in 2 months so labour board might not be help cus I know it takes longer to get help from the government. p.s. I'm in toronto, canada.

- maybe$50 dollars a minute or more.

- I know in the US many attorneys would be willing torepresent you on a "contingent fee" (ie 1/3 of the amountyou win at trial, if you win.) Unfortunately, the legal system can be slow, it could take a lot more than two months to resolve this if your employer won't settle out of court. Why does the employer owe you money?
- Your friend is wrong. In Canada, no lawyer would take on this type of case on a contingency basis. You would have to retain a lawyer, and the average lawyer (the good ones) go for about $400 per hour. You should contact the Labour Relations Board in your Province, or try to apply for EI, and let them know that you haven't received your final pay or your ROE.
- Is there a Small Claims Court in Canada?
