Why are the conservatives so deathly afraid of us leaning towards a more socialistic style of government?

What is wrong with working for the government anyways. They seem to have most of the jobs now. The private sector employers seem to want to horde all the money, especially from the two stimulus packages. and spend it on themselves. Their workers will get what crumbs are left over. I would rather work for the government, in a good job with good benefits and good pay. Private sector employment sucks.

Because they simply do not know we have socialism in our system today as most every country does, nor do many of them understand what socialism is, nor would they care to know because if they did then they can not say most everyone they disagree with is a socialist. =========== Socialism: All aspects of business is controlled by the state. There is no private enterprise. We are not socialistic, nor is Obama or most any politician. We are a constitutional republic with democratic principles with a regulated capitalistic economic system and socialism for needed services with a communist public land system. All countries that claim democracy, and/or capitalism as their foundations are roughly the above. Communism on the other hand (Marxist ideology) is socialism with equality for all, and no ownership of land, houses, etc. Everyone is equal. Equal pay, equal status, equal benefits. Sounds good on paper but ignores human greed and our lust for power. That is why pure socialism and communism will always result in failure, in as much as pure capitalism results in a very small elite rich class and a vast poor class. That is why controls are put in place, because of the greedy and powerful would walk all over us more then they do now. What we need in this country to shut down these insane profits and the huge box stores lopsided wholesale buying power that puts the little guy out of business, doing that thru more regulation of capitalism. Pure free marketers believe that capitalism is self regulating. Alan Greenspan recently said that one of the biggest mistakes he made that helped lead to the current collapse was his belief the banking industry, through deregulation would be self controlling. Human greed and the lust for power is the reason that economic controls are put in place. However, it is a fine balance between too much control which can result in stagnation, to too little control which results in accumlation of wealth at the expense of the poor and middle class. No capitalism controlls was a big reason why France, Cuba, China and others went through revolutions. Do we really want an economy where the average consumer buys from only a few huge outlets? Doesn't it seem like that today? What we have, my friend, is fast approaching an monopolized economic system were the prices and business practices are truly socialistic, not on the government end, but rather the corporate end. .

25. It does. Americans, in general, are obsessed with money. The government is a little bit more relaxed, but the private sector is terrible. There is so much BS going on there, it isn't funny. I can't believe what these companies get away with. There's capitalism over seas, but it's not as crazy as it is here. You have committee after committee of people meeting to discuss why sales dropped by a dollar the last quarter. You have some people who don't do any work and play golf all day, and then you have people who work their butt off and get fired for dropping off a bit. Big business fears the government the most. They would love nothing but to become the government, or have so much control they can eliminate their competition. That's why they always make up stuff about how the government is incompetent. However, they know at any time, the US can tell them what to do. They don't want to lose 300 million potential customers. I wouldn't call socialism here the sort like what Russia had, I'd say it is natural and necessary. It is, even more so now that the economic crisis is here, and people can't pretend it doesn't exist with credit cards.
26. Again this is economis 101....higher taxes!!! There is no government bank account in the sky....the money, all the money, comes from the tax payers! The more government control there is the more it will cost the tax payers. Who pays the salaries of government employees??? bingo...the tax payer. it's a failed, failed system. 28. Actually it is more the neocons, who have wrestled the republican party away from its original focus, that is the problem. They do not want a small government, they really want a puppet government that is unable to do anything on its own and must contract with big business for all its services. That is even though in many aspects the government is more efficient or provides the best service. Lets look at a few examples. The Bush admin hired Blackwater, which charges about 50 times it costs our own military and pays its contractors (solders) about 10 times the average solder. Imagine if they were sent to a conflict that was not going well, how long do you think they would stay there? The Katrina fiasco was partially because most of the aid was being contracted out and was either never delivered or not on time. Including all that ice that may still be traveling down our highways today. The bush admin wanted to privatize social security to the stock market. Can you imagine how much would have been left if that were allowed to happen?

30. Because they want to preserve that part of the government trough for themselves and their corporate buddies. Look at the money that they throw at big oil, at the military weapon manufacturers, and the incentives for major corporations to off shore operations. When you hear conservative/republicans rail against socialism that is the part that would help every day citizens and come at the expense of their portion of that very same trough.
