I was offered a GS-5 level job, but I have my Masters, which USA JOBS says qualifies for a GS-9. The thing is, with this economy, I would gladly take this GS-5 position. My concern however, is that the woman interviewing me said that I wouldn't be eligible to apply to positions above a GS-5 for at least one year. Is this true? Why wouldn't I be able to apply just like anyone else if I am qualified? She said something about a bill or policy is in the works to change that though. Does anyone know more about this or where I can research it. My concern is that I will be stuck at a GS-5 for a year, when I am qualified to do so much more. It's just this economy sucks and I am 24, with very little real work experience - this is the only decent offer I have right now (considering stability and health insurance etc) Also I always thought once in the federal government, its easier to get federal jobs with status candidate only jobs etc. Plus I thought current federal employees get preference. Is this true that it is easier to get other federal jobs, once you are in the federal system? I would love any advice- thank you. P.S. the job is with the social security administration if that helps Thanks again!
