Fema Employment

I need help writing a good appeal letter for denial of employment?

I applied for a federal job but turns out that when they ran my background I had felonies and misdemeanors. I've never been to jail or been in trouble with the law in any way. I did have my friend run criminal background check and nothing came up. I need to write a letter of appeal but I don't know where to start. PLEASE HELP.

  1. I would start by calling the Human Resources department. It sounds like your record got confused with someone else's. That happened to me at the DMV; someone else with my name had unpaid tickets, so they held my drivers license until I called. They "suddenly" realized this person and I had different birthdays and different social security numbers! It also happened with the IRS; someone else's income got reported under my SS#. These things happen sometimes.
  2. Did you get a letter denying employment that specifically states the reason is for convictions in the background check they ran on you? Write back to the address on the letter and put it to the person who signed the letter. (unless it tells you to send appeals elsewhere) Name of Federal Agency Address Attn: Name of Person who signed letter Re: Denial of Employment and Background Check Dear Mr. Smith, I am writing in response to your letter dated January 15, 2009. This letter stated that my application for employment was denied because I have a criminal background. This is not true. I have never been in trouble with the law in any way. I am very concerned and would like to have this matter cleared up. Perhaps the background check revealed a record for a person with the same name. My full name is Lisa Marie Presley. Can you please verify that you have the correct information and run another background check. My reputation is important and if there is a mix-up in a computer I need to have this corrected. I am very interested in the position of _____ and hope that you will reconsider my application when this matter is resolved. I believe that I would be an asset to this department. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Lisa Marie Presley Att: Copy of Denial Letter
