Fema Employment

Federal Government employment?

I just received a job offer with the federal government, and reading the details of the job announcement it says that candidates will be required to complete a form OF-306 prior to employment. My concern is question #9 on the form. Several months ago I received a public intoxication fine and I was jailed for a few hours as well. It was a class C misdemeanor, and actually quite a trap that the city set up. The apparently passed new laws which prohibits drinking alcohol in a certain park near a very popular river...that seemed to round up many people and take them to jail for this...quite the income maker for the city. Anyhow, I will disclose this of course on the form, but I am curious as to whether that will affect my job offer....any thoughts?

Public Comments

  1. Depends on the job, but the important thing is that you were honest with your answer.
  2. Depends on the job. If the job or employer is sensitive to public opinion, then it will effect the offer.
  3. Honesty is always the best policy. The form of which you speak is a declaration of application, and that question should have been included on the application form you've already signed. Furthermore, the federal government, like most other employers, does a background check on its candidates. The larger issue I see of your infraction of the law is that you minimize what you'd done, and you apply blame instead of accepting your responsibility for having been jailed. I won't tell you how to disclose any of the facts, but it will not look good of you to continue to deny responsibility!!!
