Know anything about federal jobs in small cities (maui)?

I'm thinking about accepting a civilian federal job which involves strictly military-type work. its in a big city, but my problem is that i'm figuring that i will eventually want to relocate to a small area, such as maui, in perhaps 5-10 years. I understand that the biggest plus about federal jobs is the retirement security, so I would want to stay in federal for my entire career. Is transferring within federal depts easy to do? I see that although smaller areas will not have any military work, there should be post office and s.s. type of jobs...totally unrelated but potential options right?

  1. Yes, it is possible to transfer between various federal government departments. You do this by applying for positions where you want to move to and if you are the "best qualified" of the applicants for the position with the highest preference points you may be hired. The Post Office is separate from the rest of Civil Service and does their own hiring but even with them previous experience within civil service would be a plus.
