Do any of you have one? and are the benefits and perks as good as rumour has it? I would also like to hear from State or Town employees. Thanks in advance!!!!

- I have worked for the state which has fantastic benefits. Three weeks time off in the first year plus holidays. Medical is free, dental $3 per month. I put in 6% towards my 401k and they give me 15% for a total of 21%!! Federal is fairly similar, lots of time off and great benefits. I know people that earn 4 days of vacation/sick pay a month, however, they have put their time in. When applying for jobs, http://www.usajobs.com/ , click on the benefits tab to see what that department has to offer. Each agency can be different, but only slightly. Things move slowly in government, policy is hard to change and its quite structured. So keep that in mind if you like to a faster paced environment. These jobs are very hard to come by so if you are offered a position take it and give it a try. Good luck
- IF YOU can get into [STATE OR THE FEDERAL GOV.] when you are in your early 20's until you retiree, you will make out great.
- A lot of time salaries aren't the greatest but you have to take into account the monetary value of the benefits that you receive, which are usually good. Longevity is the key with any Government job,Fed or State and local.
