Is anyone an auditor for the State of California?

I am a student studying accounting and have interest in a government job. Can you tell me what any type of auditor does for the state

1. I used to be an auditor for the Texas State Comptroller. I audited sales tax, franchise tax, oil and gas tax and ad valorem tax. For several years I was in charge of all audits in the New York City area, but now the State has a permanent staff of Texas auditors in New York. The state also has auditing jobs with the State Unemployment Commission, and auditors that audit State supported colleges. After working in oil and gas tax audits I was later hired by a major oil company as a gas revenue auditor and ended up as a senior compliance analyst.
