Have YOU Ever Immigrated Outside the US?

I would like to hear about the experiences of Americans who immigrated (legally or otherwise) to another country. I am aware of a large number of American citizens who immigrate illegally to Europe and Asia where they gain employment as hostesses, bar staff or English teachers. I also know an even larger number of Americans who immigrated legally to foreign countries. I am ONLY interested in hearing about the experiences of Americans who have immigrated. If you can't understand this concept, please don't answer the question. As a legal immigrant in Italy, I didn't receive a lot of support. There was no one-stop immigration office- instead I had to visit about six or seven different places. I paid my taxes as required and registered my offical address with the local police station. I was eligible for free Italian lessons funded by the regional government. I faced a lot of prejudice because many people believed English girls were "easy". What were your experiences?

  1. Why would I ever want to do that. I have lived outside the US, but "there is no place like home"
  2. WHY MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE TOBE TREATED LIKE A SECOND CLASS CITIZEN I GET THAT HERE EVERYDAY
  3. yup, i immigrated- legally!!- from the US to Israel (asia)! my experience was pretty good- y'know, aside from the problems of learning the new language, fitting in... the biggest problem (aside from shopping!) is the anti-americans. many people here (in my circles as a teenage girl!!) are prejudiced against america, americans and anything connected to amwerica. its really annoying!!! like, in addition to all the adjusting issues, you also have to deal with locals with attitude who tell you to "go back to america" and chew your head off every time you speak english (to another american- not to them!!)?!?! plus, many people think that allllll americans are rich- which doesn't sound so bad, but gets reeeeally annoying... i don't know nuch about the legal procedures, cause my parents dealt with all that when we moved! but basically, it has its tough parts, but compared to other stuff that goes on around here, i cant complain!!
  4. NO I am a Native-American and I don't mean Indian.
  5. No, I am not allowed to leave the United States. They refused to give me a passport for my daughter without her deadbeat father's permission even though her deadbeat father doesn't have visitation rights and doesn't pay child support. I am not about to immigrate or even visit another country and abandon my daughter here in the states.
