How often do Federal Agencies waive job interviews?

Is it a bad sign if the hiring agency doesn't give you an interview? I only scored 75 out of 100 for this job, so I'm not that qualified. I'm laid off, so I'm desperate for a Federal job. All the other Federal jobs I applied for and didn't get gave me an interview. In this economy, I'm suprised that I don't have more competition.

  1. Federal agencies -- or any other employer -- are under no obligation to interview every applicant. You aren't getting an interview, because these federal agencies are not choosing you -- they are choosing others. You have a great deal of competition -- they are getting interviews rather than you. The jobs you are applying for are receiving hundreds of applications, but choosing just three or four people to interview. Being desperate to get a job is a really bad way to get one. What are your qualifications? What are your academic qualifications? What skills do you have? What level of management have you been in? What sets you apart from other applicants? Do you meet the requirements of the jobs you are applying for *perfectly*, or do you have some shortcomings? If you aren't getting interviews, then you need to have a hard look at your CV, your presentation style, the skills being asked for and the skills you have -- and undertake the steps necessary to make yourself a much better applicant.
