can a disabled veteran get laid off a federal government job?
I think vets are the last to go no matter what

- A disability doesn't get you guaranteed job security.
- They would always be the last to go and always have preferential hiring status if they have to get a new job.
- You bet. If they are closing a base or there is cuts in federal spending the first people to go are the last people hired. Just like the military it is all about seniority. Normally government employees are offered a new job in a different location though.
- It's possible, I suppose but highly unlikely. Did he murder someone, or is he guilty of treason ? Only then would you have a case !
- Anyone can get laid off from a federal job. If your department is going through a RIF (reduction in force), then everyone that works there will be ranked by the same preference points that were used when you applied. As a vet, you know you have 5 point preference. If you are disabled vet of at least 30%, that is an additional 10 points (I believe, if not then it is another 5). Once everyone's points are tallied, the bottom of the list should get laid off first. Now, if everyone is getting laid off, then there is not much you can do.
- In the US, anything can happen in the name of big business. Thanks for your service by the way, god bless.
