What is the best road to federal law enforcement?

I am in The USAF dep. I have not recieved a job yet and I put security forces as my first selection. I am joining the air force for a few reasons including to serve my country and to gain some discipline. The main reason is for experience to get me into federal law enforcement like the FBI. My issue is that the security forces afsc only requires a 33 general asvab score and I scored a 77 overall score. I still have a chance to change my job. Would security forces be good for me or should I look into another afsc? If yes, then what other afsc can help me with law enforcement?

  2. Federal law enforcment is much different than military service. Your military service will look good on your application, but because of the different nature of work, your AFSC is not important.
  3. Well your head in the right direction. I have a fellow Officer who is ex-air force when he got out he had many job offers. Here why he worked in the Security Force and Air Force MP Department and serve as an Director of the Department also he work some in their prisons and jails. Your in the right direction my advise is stay in security get yourself into some law enforcement type field in the USAF. Learn some new languages, get yourself an Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice, get as much training as you can in weapons, and get training in all type of intell. Anything to make you stand out. I didn't go military and I got a BS degree and had to do 2yrs and 3 months at a State Correctional Facilty before I was finally a Federal Correctional Officer. You need your degree and get experince in Law Enforcement, plus military time helps and give you more points and your time there will help when you get ready to Retire from a Federal Law Enforcement Career. Keep this in mind 57yrs of age is the cut off point.
  4. Look into applying at the FLETC--Federal Law Enforcement Training Center: http://www.fletc.gov/training/student-registration-information Or the FBI Academy http://www.fbijobs.gov/
