How do employers get away with discriminating against minority religious status?

If you are not Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Bhuddist or any other major denomination, and you try to get a job in the US and do not have the power of these networks, how is it that American law allows the government to pass over your application for employment or promotion?

  1. Employers are not allowed to discriminate based on religion. In fact, that question should not even come up in a job interview or on a job application. If an employer is found to be discriminating, they can be in big trouble.
  2. 99% of employers don't care. They care about three things. Empoyers want you to be profitable, have perfect attendance, and not be a liability to the company. Infact, it is illegal for the question of religion to be part of your application interview process, so most likely, your employer will not know what religion you are.
  3. what denomination would be left ? hiring decisions should be according to qualification for the job, references , past experience and the ability to past a security and drug test.
  4. They don't. Stop using your lack of being worth a damn by claiming discrimination.
  5. Religion should not be on the application form. If it is, just check every box and say you are secular. :)
  6. Are you serious? If you're not any of the above religions, what are you? It is the discretion of any company to hire or 'look over' applicants, it is not an obligation to hire, it's a choice.
  7. Since you stated no explicit example of religious discrimination I can only assume your question is one of immigration and not law. And on that basis, you have no issue worthy of discussion.
  8. The government shouldn't regulate employment. Employers pay for work and they're entitled to get it done by whomever they choose. It's a complex concept called freedom, maybe you've heard about it. From a practical point of view, why would you want to get a job in a place where you're not welcome? Why force the employer at gun point to take you in? Do you think that he'll be happy to comply? Do you think he's going to change his mind and love you? Discrimination is not real, there's no such thing as discrimination. It starts when you call it. If you force an employer to hire at least x number from the minority group y you're discriminating the first person from the majority who was better prepared for the job, more skilled, more willing to do the job and that was denied the position in favor of a quota. Freedom is a better solution.
  9. Many employers do background checks and find out about you even when it is not listed on the application. In the United States more than 50% of civilized folk are Christian or say that they are despite the fact that most of them don't really know what a Christian is and if they did they would probably stand clear of the whole thing. Example Luke 19 27...not such an example of love....check it out. Anyway, in more rural areas or in areas where most employees know if you go to some church x y or z, this is how you get networked into the employment scene. Since most churches are Christian in the US, either you attend or show up sometimes and get voice and or recognition otherwise, or you are a nobody. Networking is a powerful force. Creed networking is prominent as organizations like the Masons and Knights and Elks and Moose all have sets of beliefs and ways they go by. If you can belong but not participate and just socialize in them, you can generally do quite well in job interviews....a social thing. But you can be a complete hypocrit, in fact if you are, more power to you because a good liar is best in today's business climate of back stabbing and throat cutting competition! Their ideals did not start out that way, but their ideals are based on myths that they call truths, some of which are somewhat functional, but not completely true for all circumstance. Crowd control as it were. But if you don't belong, you probably won't be wrong, just without a job.
