Why do libbers want to go after the oil companies?
They makes less than the Federal Government and they bear all the expense of exploration, drilling, transportation, etc Why can't we drill in ANWAR? California? The Gulf (the Chinese are)? Why are we beholden to a few whack jobs who want Americans to live in the dark, grow our own food and walk everywhere we go?

- because capitalism is the root of all Americas problems...or so they think i say put it EVERYTHING to a vote for the people, by the people & you'll watch liberalism die.
- I dont know but putting all this pressure on them is just going to make the prices rise even more. I agree we need to get out and drill in ANWAR this is getting ridiculous!
- They make excessive profits and gas costs too much, AFTER they had done all the other stuff, not to mention buying up land. and stores to hide their excessive profits and diversify
- First the Chinese ARE NOT get past the lie even the Dick Cheney has admitted he "misspoke" They DO NOT BEAR all the cost the get a buttload of federal subsidies Oil is not the future and liberals know it, Oil is a FINITE substance and w should have already been off it had we had any real leadership in the last 35 years here's your future read up buy the stock and you'll get a nice return for your retirement brother http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article4133668.ece
- Money and Power. They will go after the profits of every other company if they get away with this. Can you spell Communism.
- Thats all they have, No workable solution, Just thats all they have. And they want us to think they can run the country.
- I'll let Patrick Moore (Co-founder of Greepeace) exlpain that in his article telling us why he left that organization "The Rise of Eco-Extremism Two profound events triggered the split between those advocating a pragmatic or "liberal" approach to ecology and the new "zero-tolerance" attitude of the extremists. The first event, mentioned previously, was the widespread adoption of the environmental agenda by the mainstream of business and government. This left environmentalists with the choice of either being drawn into collaboration with their former "enemies" or of taking ever more extreme positions. Many environmentalists chose the latter route. They rejected the concept of "sustainable development" and took a strong "anti-development" stance.
- Right now, who isn't after the oil companies. They are just about the only ones making real profits now. It's not a matter of will we run out of oil, it's a matter of when. If we don't get it together and find a new way, we (the whole earth) will be living in the dark, growing our own food and walking everywhere. And, I'm not even a liberal!
- So we should disrupt the migration patterns of the caribou, threaten the lives of California seals, and risk an oil spill in the Gulf so that we can tool around in gas-guzzling SUVs or Hummers. There's a lot of logic to that!! When will we finally come to understand that WE are not the only species on this planet? It is NOT our right or privilege to destroy all other plants and animals for our own comfort, convenience or profit. The lowly tsetse fly, a Venus fly trap, polar bears, swamps, remote Eskimo tribes, rain forests, oceans, elephants, wetlands, Brazilian tribal units in dense forests, meadows, mangrove forests, mountains, redwood trees, spiders, poisonous Amazonian frogs, iguanas, kittens, horse shoe crabs, glaciers, beaches and all other plants, animals and natural elements on Earth have a purpose here. We have been poor stewards of this planet, and we will someday - sooner rather than later - pay for our excesses and debauchery when we begin to discover how we have caused the extinction of all things necessary to balance life on Earth and sustain our very being. Arrogance, ignorance, avarice, sloth and hubris have all set in to allow us to believe that we are the "superior" species on this planet, when - in fact - we are among the very worst inhabitants of this good Earth who have stolen all its beauty and goodness for the sake of our own gluttony and squalor. "Libbers", unfortunately, aren't much different than "neocons" when it comes to contributing to the death of this planet. Within a generation we will all pay a heavy price for the way we've squandered all of Earth's natural resources. -RKO- 06/16/08
- "Why do libbers want to go after the oil companies?" "Libbers"? lol..... "They makes less than the Federal Government and they bear all the expense of exploration, drilling, transportation, etc" So that's your justification for not holding them accountable for their actions? Are you afraid they may have to spend $$ on improving our nation's oil/pipeline infrastructure? (You know...another CHIEF reason why our gas is too high is due to plant "shut downs", spills...etc etc due to our crumbling refinery/pipeline capacity). "Why can't we drill in ANWAR? California? The Gulf (the Chinese are)?" They are? Really. Provide unbiased, credible proof. By the way...you're not so keen on economics, are you? If we drill in KNOWN reserves---it may help us in the short term...but eventually this will increase speculation in the oil markets---sending oil (per barrel) higher in the long run. We need a common sense approach to our energy woes...not a rampant run on resources so that we may HOPE to locate another oil pocket 4 miles down the surface of our planet. "Why are we beholden to a few whack jobs who want Americans to live in the dark, grow our own food and walk everywhere we go?" Like radical conservatives...the exact number of looney liberal "leftists" are few in number. There is no left wing conspiracy out to make you walk barefoot to your nearest Whole Foods market to buy your 120 grain bread---and your grass juice. You need to wake up and realize we do not have a whole lot of options out there --- especially knowing when it comes to our enormous dependence on oil, we really lack genuine alternatives to powering manufacturing plants, semi-trucks, barges, your car, my truck, etc etc..... The pumpjacks and wells will go dry one day---and if that day comes sooner than expected---you may have no other choice BUT to take the "ankle-express" 8 miles down to your local Stop n Go to get your tin of Copenhagen---
- They aren't the only ones who want some answers from the oil companies. And sorry to burst your bubble, but the Federal Government does bear a lot of the expense of exploration, drilling, transportation, etc. through huge subsidies. Who said anything about living in the dark? As for growing our own food, I do, at least I know where some of my food comes from, and is safe for me to eat. We don't have to walk everywhere, but if you look around you, there are many people who could stand to do some exercise.
