Received W-2 after I filed my State and Federal Taxes?

I just received a W-2 form for a job I worked at for a week. It was for only $52. I already filed my taxes. Do I have to file again?

  1. Wait until next year and file amened '07 return.
  2. You probably should file an amended return, a form 1040X. This can be done at any time, so I'm not sure why someone else here is suggesting that you wait until next year to file it. You can do it today if you want to.
  3. this happens all the time. Who remembers something like that? It won't really change the return you already filed. If the IRS catches it they will let you know. Otherwise-- just let it go. Another poster said to file an ammended right away. I would not do it . With two returns floating around at the same time you will only cause confusion and screw up the money you are waiting for.
  4. I would just have it amended, talk to your accountant. It's best to not leave your W-2 around for a year, the IRS might think you're hiding something.
  5. You must amend both of your tax returns now. The Federal is done on Form 1040-X. Your state has a similar means of amending your return. Although it's "only" $52, it's enough to mess up your tax liability so you have to amend and pay any additional tax due, if any, by April 15th.
  6. The IRS will match all your W2's against their records. Does it change your tax situation? You need to file a 1040x and a 540x even if it does not change so all are accounted for. You should wait for your original tax form to be processed but prior to 4/15 if you owe money.
  7. Yes you do - you'll have to file an amended 2007 return. And don't just wait until next year.
