Fema Employment

I have applied to 13 federal police officer jobs last month and i keep get the same response back, why?

It say " Due to the number of applications received for this position, we did not reach your application in the final review process. " I have 2 bachelors degrees and have 5 years experience as a police officer. I keep receiving letters from federal emplyment agencies stating "Due to the number of applications received for this position, we did not reach your application in the final review process" or "You were rated eligible but your rating was not within reach for referral to the employing agency". I was wondering how would I go about getting hired with federal employment. I always apply to jobs on usajobs but, I always receive this message. I have 2 bachelor degree in law enforcement and homeland security and i have experience as a seasonal police officer. I would appreciate any help you could give me.

  1. What about references; letters of commendation or recommendation. Do they accept these things with your application?
  2. Most Federal positions also have what is called KSAs: "Knowledge, Skills and Abilities". If they have them, make your you use at least 1/2 page to fully answer each KSA addressed. Failure to complete ANY part of the application process can disqualify you for selection.
  3. If you are looking for a federal job, go see your Congressman's staff, and get to know at least one of them by name. If your Congressman endorses your application, iy WILL get attention. That's how High schoolers get to the academies. BTW, I mean his local guys, not in DC
  4. Competition is fierce.....................keep trying............good luck............
  5. You are obviously basically qualified for the position. When filling out the applications be sure to answer the Knowledges, Skills and Abilities and Other Characteristics (KSAOs). The way the scoring is usually done is you recieve 70 pts for being basically qualified and then the remainder of the points are derived from your answers to the KSAOs. If you do not answer these your maximum score, not including any points for veterans preference, will be 70. This is usually a score which is not easily reachable on the certificate of eligibles. Be sure to talk yourself up. You are selling yourself to the raters and need to make sure you answer each KSAO in significant detail. You can never say too much. If the agencies are using USA Staffing or other computer based rating system, be sure to give yourself as much credit as possible. Do not underrate yourself.
  6. Do you have veteran's preference? Without it, your application is competing against the thousands of former/retired military looking for jobs. Consider TSA, they are always announcing positions. Consider pursuing your master's degree - it will qualify you at a higher level. Don't be frustrated if you don't have the veterans preference. There is a big push on right now to hire veterans. Use your college career centers, and don't forget the state/local gov't levels.
