is it a federal offence to right on someones mail, and then place it in someones elses mail box?
I was living with this woman, whom I thought was my friend, and she kicked me out about week after I got a job I liked... well I was kicked out on a Thursday and did not have time to make it to the post office till the following Monday my Bank statement was sent to her hoyse and she wrote "I told you not to use my address, I told you to go and got a PO Box" well she did tell me I could use her adress. Any way after writing all over my mail she went and put it in one of my friends mail boxes and did not tell me is that a federal ofence

- Yes.
- Technically since she does not have the authority to go into the mailbox yes, but the postal inspectors won't investigate something like that (she didn't open your mail or do anything else to the contents of the mailbox). The writing on the envelope is just an annoyance for you (I write "please return to sender, not at this address" a lot of some mail I get). Get a PO box. Prevent any further problems.
- once u mess with ones mail your assed out. So hell yes
- Yes. You should notify the post office and let them see the envelope she wrote on. Even take your friend who received it from your former roomate.
- technically anything sent to her address, weather it's addressed to her or not, is hers. so even though it was rude to write on it, not opening it and returning it to a place you could retrieve it was a courtesy, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.
- put in a change of address ASAP. you're just looking for retribution & you know it. you both need to grow - & learn the diference between "right" and "write" jeeez, did anyone on this site graduate from high school ?
- In this circumstance, the mail was addressed to her address. She obtained it rightfully out of her mail box. She wrote, basically, you do not live here. That is all legal. It is a federal offense to open someone else's mail box or mail. The only action that is questionable and strictly speaking, a federal offense is that she opened someone else's mailbox to place your mail in it. Opening someone else's mail box is illegal. However, there is very little chance of anything happening even if you report this. Postal inspector will not get involved in something this silly. This is just a childish argument and there were no intent to commit crime or create a loss. I agree she is behaving badly, but that itself is not a crime.
- Writing on another persons piece of mail is not a federal offense. Placing it into someone else's mailbox is not either. Though, she should have just put it back into a blue box with return to sender on it. Clearly you are angry over, what you feel is mistreatment. Vindictiveness will not make you feel better. Through life friendships will come and go, some will burn out, and some will end due to fights. Realize it's apart of life. It hurts, but move on.
