If you switch between federal government jobs, do you stay at the same Grade/Step? Can you negotiate steps up?

1. The job will be posted at a certain grade. It is possible to transfer within and "step up" if you are qualified.
2. Step increases are not negotiable as they are predicated ( by law) upon your time in service at your current grade. Complete Federal pay and benefits information can be found at the website of the Office of Personnel Management. (OPM)
3. You will be able to get promotions !! If your work meets certain criteria, you may be eligible for promotion to the GS-7 level after six months on the job and achieve Promotions above the GS-12 level also!!
