Are there any employment laws regarding breaks?
If an employee (over 18) in Pennsylvania were to work 8 hours straight with no breaks, would any federal and/or state laws be broken?

- It would depend upon the companies rules of employment. Most would have at least a lunch break (some paid, most not paid)
- Yes there are labor laws regarding lunch and personal break times. Your employer is screwing it's employees.........
- Yes by law, you are entitled to one 30 min. break for lunch, and 2 ten min. breaks if you work 8 hours or more.
- Check with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor. In my opinion, your employer can not mandate that you work eight hours without a break - if you choose to do so - that would be up to you. However, some employers might insist that you do take a break.
- Of course there are laws. As a matter of fact they are required by law to be posted in the break room/area so the employees can know their rights. You are entitled to a 30min. break and a 15min break according to federal labor laws.
- Yes, depending on the rules of employment; but in saying that an employer is mandated by the law to allow employee at least 30minutes break for lunch. If you agreed with employer initially not to have breaks; then you have allowed them, to not give you one; but saying that your employer should give you one 30 minutes break in order not to break employment law.
