How would one find a government office job in Canada?

Just wondering if anyone knows how people manage to get jobs in ministry offices in Canada. i.e. front desk clerks at places like the ministry of foreign affairs in passport offices, or ministry of health in offices where people go to apply for health cards, stuff like that. Also, would jobs like that require you to be bilingual, even in a city that barely has any French-speaking people?

  1. The link below is to the federal government job listings site. You could also submit your resumé to the appropriate department and it may be kept on file for a certain period of time. There is no requirement for all federal employees to be bilingual, but if you are it can be an asset. The need for bilingual staff is not the same in all parts of the country.
  2. The site http://jobs-emplois.gc.ca/ , is the website of the Public service Commission of Canada, and it is the on-line source for federal jobs ! Jobs in the federal Public Service may be classified into two broad language categories:Unilingual, or Bilingual. Unilingual positions may be further classified as "English essential"; "French essential"; or as "English or French essential." There are a certain percentage of positions in the federal government that are classified as bilingual positions. The proportion of jobs designated bilingual grew to 14% in 1978, and to 25% in 2004. and it is furher increasing !
