Can anybody explain how Unemployment Plummets After Crackdown on Illegals but on raise every where else?
Unemployment rates are rising across the United States, except Oklahoma. That state is experiencing the most dramatic reduction in unemployment since 2007, an improvement many in Oklahoma attribute to the passage last year by the state legislature of a strong employment-focused immigration reform law. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics on Friday reported unemployment in Oklahoma had fallen to 3.1 percent "The bottom line is illegal aliens will not come here if there are no jobs waiting for them," Terrill said. "They will not stay here if there is no government subsidy, and they certainly won't stay here if they know that if they ever encounter our state and local law enforcement officers, they will be physically detained until they are deported." House Bill 1804, the Oklahoma Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act of 2007, has been characterized by USA Today as "arguably the nation's toughest state law targeting illegal immigration." The Oklahoma law imposes strict penalties on employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens, makes it a felony to transport or shelter illegal immigrants, forbids the state to issue drivers licenses or pay social welfare benefits to illegal aliens or their families, and empowers state and local police to enforce federal immigration laws. The group based the conclusions on a study done by economists Russell Evans and Kyle Dean of the Oklahoma-based Economic Impact Group that estimated as many as 70,000 illegal immigrants were living in "Will anyone in Old Media dig more deeply into the Sooner State's situation?" Blumer wondered. "Or will they try to pretend that Oklahoma's improvement doesn't exist, because finding out why might expose some inconvenient truths, and hurt the cause of illegal-immigrant 'amnesty.'"http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=62537 Maybe GWB should go to Oklahoma and get an education.

- immigration can be easily handled on the state level. if states require proof of eligibility to work in the USA for all employers who hire new employees, no illigals would be able to be employed in that state and they will not go to that state to work... why is it george bush's fault that states dont have common sense laws? by the way, it rises everywhere else BECAUSE the illigals leave oklahoma and dont go back to mexico, they just go across the state border and try to work there. when theres less illigals in oklahoma because there are the same ammount of jobs and less workers, there are still the same number of people in the nation so the border states experience an influx of illigal workers and unemployment rises. they need to crackdown on illigals as well. it is not necessarily a federal problem. would you like us to send our army reserves into the southern USA to check the immigration status of all hispanics? that sounds kind of facist doesnt it? the states should be individually cracking down. oklahoma was not the first state to do so, i believe arizona cracked down last year and they had the same results.
- I do not know what explanation you need. When you do not have the illegals, the jobs get filled. If the employers cannot get illegals, and their wages are too low, then they have to raise their wages. My brother lives in Oklahoma City and he says that the wages have gone up as well. That is the part of this story that they ignore. That is the part of the illegal immigrant story that I have been telling for years. The jobs that "Americans won't take" get taken if the wages are fair and not suppressed by illegals.
- Nope you are wrong, unemployment rates are going down, i dont know what you are talking about dude. http://www.csus.edu/indiv/j/jensena/sfp/us/rec_unem.jpg
- Well, that would mean over 13 million jobs for Americans....
- My sister lives in a rural agricultural community. Yes, amazingly, when they cracked down on illegals, the job market opened up a lot and most people can now find employment in the area. The argument that illegals only take jobs that nobody else wants is not true at all. In addition, much of the money is not spent locally, but sent to support family elsewhere, thus further depressing the economy. I still support a guest-worker program - for products that are essentially hand picked, there may not be enough workers available to get the crop picked in time. However, these aren't the folks that are taking jobs away from others, IMHO.
- Once employers no longer have people to exploit with substandard wages, they must hire other workers to get the work done. Illegals don't bring the jobs with them. Contractors are especially guilty of hiring illegals at low wages. There are plenty of people here to do the work. There always has been. I think hiring an illegal should be a criminal offense with minimum jail sentences, just like drunk driving. And the penalty doubling at each subsequent offense. God Bless the Okies !!!
- If a state has 1000 jobs and 100 of these jobs are taken by illegal immigrants then you have 100 people out of work(10% unemployment). If you fire 100 illegals then the 100 legal residents go to work and you have 0% unemployment. 100 illegals now need somewhere to go so they leave to go to other states to drive up their unemployment. Figures are for example sake only!
- Economy is people. Deportation is to protect our majority rule. If people are omitted from the equation, imagine the economy. It may be the racism. Illegal entry was the situation for a long time, we just woke up after 2000 census, because we lose the majority rule.. Laws you refer to does not make any sense, even we framed no child left behind, 3/2 years ago, for a high school diploma, literacy for the people. Imagine the law to educate all americans for a college degree, may be never.
- Reducing illegals does wonderful things for the economy. Employers either raise pay and benefits or they shut their doors. Since the 1970's corporate farms have bought out most of the family farms. They are the ones that employ most of the illegal aliens. I would like to see the corporations start to sell their land back to families. The family farm would be a nice benefit.
