DO I need to include a cover letter when applying for government jobs?

I'm going to apply for a lot of government jobs I found on usajobs.com and studentjobs.gov. I'm not sure if the whole cover letter thing applies here, as it does with commercial jobs. does anyone know?

  1. For most jobs, yes. However, it is not called a cover letter. It is called a KSA (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities). The one good thing about a KSA is that it will ask you for more specific skills, while a cover letter is more general and vague.
  2. Thank you, sir, wellesley
  3. I work for the Federal Government. No you do not include a cover letter. You have to follow their instructions in completing their application and if it is not correct, they will file 13 it. (toss in trash) Along with completing the application, you have to submit a KSA. If you don't know what that is, research it on the internet for Government KSA samples. Good Luck to you.....
