Is the government lying to us about crime, unemployment and inflation?
The federal government says that things are great but the people on the Internet say things are terrible. Who is right? The government says inflation is low by historical standards, but prices are rising like crazy. The government says that unemployment is only about 5% and that is near full employment because most of the people not working really do not want a job. But it is nearly impossible to find a good job. The government tells us we have very low crime closer to 1950s levels and everything is fine but parents are afraid to let their kids leave the house. What is the truth?

- The government manipulates the statistics, using only the measurements that make them look good. Some inflation indexes disregard fuel and food costs, and is widely used lately. Yes, they certainly do lie.
- the way i feel is that the people we have in goverment are not looking beyond their checkbooks, and paychecks to see what the average (now below average families) are really dealing with.
- the stats are manipulated to favor the government, for example: if you have 10 people unemployed out of 100, you have 10% unemployment. however at the end of their unemployment checks (about 6 months) even if they still don't have a job, they drop off the stats. so you could still have 10 people unemployed, but because they no longer receive benefits, they don't count, and you can report 0% unemployment. The rise in consumer spending is another one, it is used to show if the economy is moving, so they reported a .6% rise in consumer spending. but that was due to the cost of goods rising. Also, ever notice how every summer, the government comes out and say that new jobs have been created? they count the kids getting summer jobs, and use it to say that the economy is creating new jobs
- Consider this,: during the administrations of mostly Republicans, but some Democrats, the misinformation we were fed was not just a stretching of the truth, but controlled information flow of the nature to make us feel "safe, secure and content". We were and are treated as if the bad news would shake our very faith, but in REALITY, the reason is simple it is MONEY. How you may ask, well here is what I think.. 1. The Stock market is enriching a particular portion of our society. 2. Bad news affects the emotions of the traders in stocks. 3. Panic is the only issue which Wall Street fears. 4. Money (security, contentment, safety) is LOST 5. Panic and riots and instability, general CHAOS.. (Lies and Pandering are easier on us, better for governments.)
- Yes,The government is manipulates the statistics, as Trouble Shooter claims. I do not beleive the administration is not lying. How you manage your finance and how I manage my might be the opposit. How someone solve a crisis is one solution, You might have another solution, and it might both be right.
- We are lied to every day about everything!
