Jobs inolving IT and Law enforcement?

Hi all, I have a B.S. in IT, currently I work doing stuff mostly involving web development but I also manage servers/security and such. I have a pretty decent knowledge of networks etc.. Here's the problem. To be honest I'm getting a little bored sitting behind a desk coding. In the back of my mind I've always wanted to do IT field work. I think I would really enjoy working alongside law enforcement(probably a federal agency) and helping them from a technical aspect. Does this specific type of job exist? Is it intel gathering, surveillance(which I heard was really boring), or what? If there is a specific job that fits this, what type of qualifications are required? I don't want to shoot anyone or be shot at lol jk but I would like to be out there helping. Thanks all. -signed, in need of some excitement.

  1. A first step would be to start looking at your local government job boards, not necessarily federal agencies. Federal agencies could require some kind of government clearance, which might be an extra hindrance. So trying to get a job locally might be easier, which would build up your work experience. It would also likely be easier to talk to local law enforcement, i.e. get an informational interview.
