Why are we using so many contractors for sensitive US govt. jobs?

My ears perked up when I heard that the government was releasing the names of the 2 government contrators that had peered into the passport files of US Presidential candidates. Expecting a human, I instead heard the names of 2 corporations. Have politicians just found a way to even make government jobs a way to give money to rich freinds? Or is there any legitimate reason to use government contractors in these jobs. I already thought of the too difficult to fire thing. We changed the law so that we could use contractors, surely we could of changed it so that it was easier to fire people instead.

  1. because most people involved in the government are on public records and databases using contractors increases confidentiality...
  2. ya, with all the extra beefed up Homeland Security stuff going on it seems that they would have stricter background checks, instead of the secretary's first cousin could use a summer job~!!!
  3. Good luck trying to fire a federal employee. Tenured, they are in for a full pension ride.
  4. Give some thought to the idea, that the people that our government has employed aren't capable of doing the job required. There is also the fact that money flows freely among politicians, when it comes to spending for their best interest. Where have you been, that's why people get into state and government jobs, so it's harder for anyone to fire them because of their inabilities ?.
