DUI and Contracted Government Position?
I work at a private company that recently landed a contract to do some work for the federal government. I have recently been offered a position to work on this project, but I must first pass the government's background check. I am concerned about a OWI offense that occurred about a year ago in Wisconsin. This is my first (and will be only) offense. I know Wisconsin does not consider the first offense criminal but it is on my DMV record, and I know it can't look good during an employment screening. Will this cause me to fail the screening?

- It might. You are obligated to put it down. This will not disqualify you but it could lead to a background investigator contacting you. Usually they just check your credit. The investigator will see if you are at risk by asking you about how much you currently drink, where you drink, and who you drink with. If your answer is all the time, wherever I can, or by myself you may be denied. Good luck.
- You should look into what's called Expungement. http://drivingafterdui.com/dui-expungement.htm has more on this.
- Absolutely not ! Your fears are unfounded. you will come out successfully after the screening !!!
- I have seen contractors with multiple DUIs receive clearances. I wouldnt worry. If you fail to include it on your application you will receive an unfavorable clearance.
- You need to make sure you put it down on your paperwork.Though it is a DWI, the FED Gov't will check into your background very thoroughly, this is to include criminal and credit checks. This is depending on the type of security clearance that you are going to need at that time of the contract.
