Ex-active duty seeking future career with federal government....?
I was HONORABLY discharged about 2 years ago from active duty. My reason code on my DD-214 was personality disorder because of the depression I was experiencing at that time, due to events that occured in the military. I am now seeking employment with the Federal Government again, through DFAS, but as a civilian employee. The interview went great, but I know they need to do a background check. Will that reason code prevent me from getting this job?

- It shouldn't on a background check but may cause difficulty if you need a security clearance.
- Where you informed in any way of RE code disqualifiers? Or asked any questions about your psychiatric history. You would be stepping into a position that relied heavily on your proven loyalty to the government - all of which is on your 214. In my experience as a military recruiter, that RE code would require an evaluation prior to a job offer. I wouldn't bring it up to them if they don't ask about it. If it is a concern they will contact you.
- Is the background check part of a security clearance investigation?
- NO it shouldn't and you were HONORABLY DISCHARGED. go to usajobs.gov if you are still looking for a federal job. GOOD LUCK and thanks from one vet to another
