Federal tax?
I have a temporary job that has 2 month length period. I file my tax in Texas. Status married and 1 allowance. I have question about Federal tax. I have paycheck per 2 weeks. Why sometimes in my paycheck the company i work for does not take out my wages for Federal tax? Is that normal and common? They sometimes just took it for Social security and medicare taxes?

- Your employer follows the withholding rules for the amount you earned during the work period. All wages are subject to Med, and wages up to a variable limit is subject to SS. Amounts as small as 1$ difference in gross earnings for the work period, change the amount of Federal Tax withheld.
- You have to bring it to the attention of payroll, they will be able to explain why they don't take federal tax out of every paycheck, they should be.
- Perhaps you are not making enough money to be subject to Federal Income Tax. Almost all wages are subject to Social Security and Medicare. However, the federal income tax system allows deductions and exemptions. Basically, if you are married with a young child, you shouldn't owe any federal income tax unless you earn at least $31,000 ($17,500 without the child). If your biweekly paychecks are $1,200 or less, you may not have anything withheld for federal income tax, and that's probably OK. Still, you can ask your payroll department what's going on, if you want to.
