What type of government employment security clearances can you get with a foreign spouse?
I know the CIA is pretty much out of the question but is the NSA out as well? Is it all Top Secret clearances or what? thanks

- It depends on what country your spouse is from to some extent. If your spouse's country is on the list of "hostile to the U.S." countries, it may be more difficult. But here's the deal, basically you just tell the truth. Your spouse, and any other relatives or friends that you see frequently that were born in another country have to be listed on your security application. Depending on the level of your clearance, they may, or may not be investigated. There are sooo many levels of clearance. Each one has it's own restrictions. I know of a particular program specific security where you would be denied if your spouse was a citizen of Canada! (whether the people in question have obtained U.S. citizenship is also an issue). The only way to find out is to apply. Top Secret shouldn't be a problem. Other higher levels will depend on what the investigation turns up. I've had BUNCHES of security clearances, at many different levels. The most important thing is; anything that may be questionable, be sure to disclose on your application for security. If you tell them about it, they can look into it and decide. Also, don't think denial of a security clearance dooms you. You might still be able to work at a given job, or in a given field, but your access to secret stuff would be limited. And believe me.....secret stuff is mostly horribly technical and boring. GL EDIT ADD: P.S. Don't deny your own security clearance. You're making assumptions about what you could or could not be cleared for. Let THEM tell you if you're going to be denied.
