What Federal Agency is for Me?
Hello, I am looking into law enforcement as a career, I am interested in the FBI, U.S. Marshals, DEA, and CIA. What I want to know is what is the best job for law enforcement, i want to have a field job, not as much as a desk job. And by field job I mean I want to guard places, guard people, stuff like that. If you know of any job that sounds like that please tell me.

- If you want to gaurd people and places, work in the prison system.
- Then you need to either try for the US Marshals or better yet, the Secret Service or DEA. These three are the only real police work in the field job. The DEA especially. You would LOVE the DEA or Marshalls office! They hunt and work real criminals! The FBI spends 99 % of their time tied to a cubical analyising data. The CIA wont even look at you unless you can speak several languages or have some very, very special skill they are looking for. The CIA normally comes looking for you.... you don't just apply and they train you. I will link them and you can read all about it! http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/resources/job_applicants.html http://www.ustreas.gov/usss/ http://www.usdoj.gov/marshals/
- Since your not looking for a desk job, and want to be out in the field, and you want to guard people and guard places, then perhaps Law Enforcement is not your cup of tea. Perhaps you should consider working for a private security company, either in domestic circumstances or foreign. Pinkerton's Security Service for domestic (USA) Blackwater Security Company for foreign(they guard people, places and are armed to the teeth, and ALL of them have prior military training and skills to apply to their specialty jobs) The FBI use to require that you have a degree in accounting before joining the bureau, but I don't know if this is still required. The U.S. Marshall's, Drug Enforcement Agency and Central Intelligence Agency, as well as the National Security Agency and possibly a few other government agencies might be looking for someone of your caliber, to join their ranks, but I don't know what their job requirements are anymore. But whatever field or agency you chose to go into, keep this in mind. Join because you believe in what they are trying to do, and follow all of their rules and guidelines and do the very best job that you are capable of doing, regardless of whether its working out in the field or behind a desk in a windowless room. Thank you
- US Marshal’s are a great service, lots of travel, but it is very competitive. Two other options that may work for you are: If you want to do investigations, try NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigations Service) www.ncis.navy.mil , is the primary civilian law enforcement and counterintelligence arm of the United States Department of the Navy. It works closely with other local, state, federal, and foreign agencies to counter and investigate the most serious crimes: terrorism, espionage, computer intrusion, homicide, rape, child abuse, arson, procurement fraud, and more. The Border Patrol is the mobile uniformed law enforcement arm of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), its primary mission to detect and prevent the illegal entry of aliens, drugs, and terrorist. www.usborderpatrol.gov They are really hiring and need lots of people.
- You might want to look for CBI or ISI. Or if You like to Guard on people, buy Age of Empires the Warchiefs.
- US Marshalls or Secret Service. DEA is cool, but also extremely dangerous. I prefer the ATF.
- You might try the State Department security office. They handle diplomatic security for foreign dignitaries and security for the Secretary of State. They also investigate visa and passport violations. Basically do they same thing as Secret Service except that they work for the State Dept.
